April 24th - 3:00pm EST - Criteria 15. Sustainable Procurement: Delivering Organizational Value while Helping the Environment and Growing Local Economies

Session Objectives:

Every product, service and supplier selection your organization makes represents an opportunity to reduce the negative impacts of consumption on the environment and worker health.  It also serves as an opportunity to increase the positive benefits of consumption such as local community economic development.   More sustainable choices deliver on these opportunities!  When done right, they can also deliver on existing, aligned procurement goals such as cost reduction and supply chain resilience.  As this truth becomes more widely recognized, procurement professionals are tasked with figuring out how best to move forward.  A well-designed, strategic sustainable procurement program is the single most important step in ensuring your organization captures these opportunities and their benefits.  It also serves as the foundation for Criteria 15.  

This session will:

• Define a strategic sustainable procurement program - and explain its importance for ensuring success of any effort related to selecting more sustainable goods, services and suppliers (15.A.)
• Provide an overview of globally recognized best practices which are recommended to empower purchasing teams to move forward with purchasing for positive impact (15.B.)
